Remembering the Hodiamont Tracks

This weekend, Occupy Vacancy attended a workshop at the Deaconess Foundation where community members were invited to share stories from their times living and working along the Hodiamont Tracks in St. Louis. The Hodiamont Tracks were once the route of a streetcar line and in later years a bus route that ran through the Vandeventer Neighborhood. While both the street car and bus route are no longer active, a public agency is considering developing the path into a new greenway for the city.

We met the one and only Vivian Gibson, author of The Last Children of Mill Creek. We also heard firsthand accounts of memories of St. Louis’s past from community members and participated in an exercise on storytelling. Thank you to new friends at Missouri Humanities for listening to our story and allowing us to attend. There is a wealth of history in our city and so many exciting things to come.
